<reviewbody>I think it was watched by kids in Communist countries as this is a Communist movie.

Still good though. 2 Stars for the copy here. 4 stars for the original extended cut only available on dvd.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>By that I mean it inspired Roddenberry (multiracial international crew playing chess) and Lucas (cute robot as Odious Comic Relief). Right up (or down?) there with "Planet of the Vampires" and "12 to the Moon." Not the best print, but quality cheese!</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>I first saw this film as one half of a Saturday matinee double bill with Varan the Unbelieveable. Varan was your typical silly "big rubber monster" movie and naturally it was fun as a kid to watch toy cars and toy buildings get stomped and tromped, but...FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS blew my mind! I was already something of a space geek kid, but FIRST SPACESHIP showed me things I had never seen before...and in color on a big screen! This film haunted me for years until I finally saw it again on late-night TV years later (remember, we didn't have cable, VCRs or DVDs in the 1960s), and even on a black and white TV screen, it was a magical vision to see. I still like this movie a lot, but it just can't quite match my pre-teen memories of it. So four stars to one of my best sci-fi movie memories...for nostalgia's sake! :)</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>SPOILER ALERT!! I own the dvd of this. Very cheesy...great fun. Bad dubbing, bad acting. BUT ahead of its time...multiracial cast (although the black guy still gets it in the end)! One of my favorite 'bad movies'. Get a glass of wine and enjoy the cheese.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>I think this movie is notable for the special effects, which were superior for 1960. The actors are credible, as is the technical storyline, given our knowledge of Venus in 1960. The moral of the picture (nuclear weapons - bad; space travel - good) intrudes on the action near the end, causing the movie to stumble a bit.

The major shortcomings of the movie are the clumsy translation and dubbing. It's clear that the people in charge of that didn't have a good handle on the English language with respect to translation, cadence, timing and inflection. Even with that, it's a pretty good space flick.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>Never seen this one. Different special effects from American or Japanese made. Not too bad. This would've been great to see on the big screen. *SPOILER ALERT* The heroes: the African, the Japanese, the American. </reviewbody>
